Ingelectus Participates in TBEA’s Annual Event in Madrid

The Ingelectus team attended the “Building Hybrid Value in Iberia” event in Madrid, organized by the Chinese multinational TBEA. The gathering addressed the latest developments in Spain’s ongoing energy transition—a shift moving away from the massive deployment of purely standalone renewable energy toward the hybridization of technologies.

Isidro Díaz Caballero, Javier Vázquez, and Luna Moreno represented Ingelectus at the event. Luna Moreno also participated in an expert panel titled “Hybrid Plants Facing Evolving Grid Requirements in Spain,” alongside Miguel Martinez (UL Solutions), David Cruañes (TBEA), Kim Keats (EKON Strategy Consulting), and Javier Lázaro (APPA Renovables).

At the forum, Luna Moreno highlighted how the hybridization of generation technologies represents a paradigm shift in centralized control. This approach requires solutions specifically tailored to each project based on its architecture, generation priorities, and participation in grid services or markets. One challenge is the gap between well-established regulations and certification standards for single-technology plants and the reality of hybrid plants; this necessitates case-by-case analysis and can lead to uncertainty, as well as additional costs and timeframes for equipment and plant certification.

She also emphasized that new flexible access schemes require mature control technology—building upon the systems already used to enable automatic power curtailment mechanisms in generation plants. The controller faces the challenge of managing two distinct technologies, while its value lies in its ability to adjust power output in the most cost-effective manner for the plant. Finally, it was highlighted that a regulatory challenge lies in defining the various terms for the power reduction component, depending on whether the installations are connected to the transmission or distribution network; in the latter case, equipment certification is required.

TBEA is a leading global Chinese group specializing in the manufacture of power transmission and transformation equipment—including power transformers, reactors, and high-voltage cables—and is a key player in the renewable energy sector through the production of inverters, converters, and battery storage systems.
Following its rapid and successful expansion into the European and Spanish markets, Ingelectus has been working closely with TBEA since 2022, beginning our collaboration with the development of dynamic models for their power electronics equipment.
