Ingelectus continues to expand its experience in carrying out grid integration studies in Mexico. With this latest study, Ingelectus has now worked on a total of 13 wind and photovoltaic plants for which it has developed the mathematical models and grid integration studies required by the Mexican system operator (CENACE). All of them have been completed in compliance with the requirements of the grid code of the Mexican National Electric System and have received CENACE’s approval.
In-depth knowledge of regulations
Mexico’s grid code specifies the technical requirements that power plants must meet in order to connect to the National Electric System (SEN), with the aim of maintaining system reliability and security. Among the main requirements are those related to frequency variations, voltage variations, voltage and reactive power control, and voltage control during faults.
In the first phase of the connection procedure of power plants to the SEN, these technical requirements are tested through simulation, using a mathematical model of the plant that accurately represents the behaviour of the real facility.
Strengthening our expertise
The photovoltaic plant in question has a nominal capacity of 300 MW and is connected to the transmission network at 230 kV. The modelling and study of the plant have been carried out using the two industrial power system simulation software tools required by CENACE: PSSE (Siemens) and EMTP-RV.
With the study of this plant, Ingelectus has incorporated a new inverter model into its grid study portfolio. Working with new models helps broaden the company’s knowledge of the mathematical models of renewable generation units available on the market, both electromechanical and electromagnetic models.
Ingelectus is taking another step towards its goal of becoming a benchmark company in grid integration consultancy for renewable plants worldwide. Alongside Mexico, other countries where Ingelectus carries out this type of project include Spain, the United States, Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Canada and Australia, among others.
